Portsmouth cancels after-school events


PORTSMOUTH — Due to an expected increase in precipitation in the late afternoon/early evening hours, all after-school events and activities scheduled for Thursday, March 7 in the public schools have been canceled.

Individual schools will let parents know if or when the events will be re-scheduled.

The R.I. Interscholastic League will determine whether the co-op hockey team competitions will take place tonight. The high school athletic director will share the information with team members when more is learned.

Police have issued a parking ban for Portsmouth through noon on Friday, March 8.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for early Thursday into Friday for this area.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
