Portsmouth cagers win, face W. Warwick Wednesday


PORTSMOUTH — A 25-0 run in in the first half helped the Portsmouth Patriots boys’ varsity basketball team knock off Narragansett in its first playoff game Saturday night at home.

The Patriots will next face top-seeded West Warwick in the Division II quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at North Kingstown High School.

It will be a real test for the Patriots, who lost earlier in the season to West Warwick by 21 points.

Freshman forward Cole Swider was the game’s high scorer Saturday with 23 points against Narragansett. He also added 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Brennen Tierney hasd 19 points, six assists and four rebounds. Senior forward Christian Darden was solid on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds.
