Portsmouth budget hearing Tuesday, not tonight

PORTSMOUTH — The public will have its chance to comment on the proposed town budget for 2013-2014 at a hearing that starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Portsmouth Middle School.

The date of the hearing was incorrectly reported as June 12 in last week's The Portsmouth Times. David Faucher, the town's finance and personnel director, said the hearing was originally scheduled to take place June 12 but was moved to the later date.

The Town Council has approved a provisional budget of $59.29 million, which represents a 2.2 percent increase over the current spending plan.

The various department heads had originally requested a budget package of $59.57 million, which Town Administrator John Klimm trimmed down to $59.22 million before presenting it to the council.

The entire provisional budget can be viewed or downloaded at the town's website, www.portsmouthri.com.
