Police: Woman still inside Portsmouth home with weapon

PORTSMOUTH — Police are still attempting negotiations with a distraught female in possession of a weapon inside a Union Street home, police said Saturday morning.

Police first surrounded the neighborhood Friday afternoon, evacuating some homes.

Officers from the Rhode Island State Police and the Portsmouth Police remained on the scene throughout the night, according to Deputy Police Chief Brian P. Peters.

Union Street remains closed between Jepson Lane and Botanica (711 Union St.). The area is contained and isolated and there are no additional people inside of the home.

Police will update the media at the conclusion of the situation or when additional information becomes available.
