Phyllis E. Tripp, 95, Westport

Phyllis E. (Stowell) Tripp, 95, of Westport, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Percy L. Tripp.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Frederick E. and Margaret L. (Donald) Stowell, she had been a lifelong resident of Westport. Mrs. Tripp was a 1938 graduate of Westport High School.  She was the oldest living member of the Pacific Union Congregational Church, Westport and was a Communion stewardess. She was also on their finance committee, worked at all of their church suppers and enjoyed knitting.

Survivors include her son, Wayne L. Tripp and his wife Betsy of Fairfax, Va.; her daughter, Margaret E. “Maggie” Tripp of Westport; three sisters, Edith M. Bowman and Helen P. Reed, both of Westport, and Winifred G. Williams of New York; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; a great-great niece; and her beloved dog Cleo.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
