Parade, ceremonies to mark Memorial Day in Westport Monday

A parade and the placing of wreaths at veterans’ memorials around town will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

The Memorial Day Parade will step off promptly at 10 a.m. at Town Hall, 816 Main Road.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #207 Color Guard will lead marchers from there to Beech Grove Cemetery for a ceremony is to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Services.

Earlier in the morning, all are welcome to attend ceremonial services at the VFW, 843 State Road at 8 a.m., the American Legion Post #145 Hall at 8:20 a.m., Latessa Square at 8:35 a.m., Fontaine Bridge at 9:10 a.m., and at Westport Point on Main Road at 9:20 a.m. to honor those who perished at sea.  

The group will then return to Town Hall where the parade marshal will assemble the parade, announces Bradford Fish, Westport’s veteran's service officer.
