Officials spearheading the construction of the new Palmer Pointe development in Barrington said there will be 10 one-bedroom apartments featured in the new project.
Frank Spinella, president of FJS Associates which is working with the developer, EBCDC, said officials recognized the need for more single bedroom apartments in Barrington.
"Sweetbriar was more multi-bedroom and we found in the planning of this (Palmer Pointe), there was a need, in addition to the multi-bedroom, more one-bedrooms," he said. "And the town really wanted us to include options for some seniors that wanted to get out of their houses. In any of the developments we do at the EBCDC and elsewhere we want to make sure that we're not limited to any one market — meaning age market — so we can accommodate small families and big families, and one- or two-person families."
Mr. Spinella said the smaller apartments will serve both older residents looking to downsize and individuals looking to return to town.
"You have folks where the house is too big for them, and you have their kids who come back and can't afford to live in Barrington. So this development will fill both those categories," he said.
