Olivia Maynard, 97, Warren

Olivia P. (Tavares) Maynard, 97, of Warren, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice. She was the wife of the late Romeo Charles Maynard. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary 118 Westport - Commander 1997-1998, American Legion Auxiliary Post 145 Westport – Secretary, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 11 Warren – Secretary 2011-2012, Auxiliary Member of 83rd Infantry Division - Boston Chapter, Gold Star Wives of America, and the Warren Senior Citizens. She was the beloved mother of Timothee J. (Bernadette) Maynard, Donald C. (Eloise) Maynard, Michael H. Maynard and Jacqueline T. ( John) Saviano. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; and she was a sister of Odelia “Dee” King. She was preceded in death by her brothers Manuel, Eugene, Ernest, John and Edmond Tavares. Arrangements were with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 2 in St. Alexander’s Church. Burial was private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #11, Womens Auxiliary League Warren, PO Box 293, Warren, RI 02885.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
