Newest Bristol salon is totally Pure


With friends, family and fellow business leaders watching, Nanci Adams and Cheryl Bayuk cut a ceremonial blue ribbon and joined the community of small business owners in downtown Bristol.

Ms. Adams and Ms. Bayuk are co-owners of Pure Salon, the newest of Bristol’s 17 or so salons. Pure opened a few weeks ago but celebrated a grand opening on Nov. 15.

The owners recognize the crowded market for salons in Bristol, but they believe Pure has a unique offering. The salon features only organic or natural products. All hair care products, from shampoos and conditioners to colorings and treatments, are natural.

“These products are great for women who are pregnant, who can’t be exposed to all those chemicals, or for people with chemical sensitivities,” Ms. Adams said.

They’re also great for everyone else, Ms. Bayuk said. Though products like these are typically more expensive to carry and to use, the owners are keeping their own prices competitive with peers. A woman’s cut starts at $40; a man’s cut at $25.

This is the first business for both owners. Before opening the salon, Ms. Bayuk, a Warren native now living in Barrington, was a licensed instructor in cosmetology. She has two mostly-grown children, both of them students at the University of New Hampshire. Like her partner, Ms. Adams is married. Pure is her first venture outside the house after years as a stay-at-home mother to four children. A native of Arizona, she lives in Tiverton with her children and husband.

In addition to hair services, Pure offers wax-free hair removal, as well as massage services with Heather Erler. The business is located at the corner of Franklin and Hope streets in downtown Bristol.
