New option for hazardous waste disposal

For those with household hazardous waste they need to get rid of quickly, there's a new alternative for Westport residents who can't wait for the next hazardous waste disposal day behind Town Hall.

The Board of Selectmen received word that NEDT Collection Center, located in sutton, will accept a wide range of hazardous waste. On the list are oil and gasoline, batteries, paints (oil and latex), aerosol spray cans, pesticides and herbicides, devices containing mercury, automotive fluids, corrosive cleaners, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, driveway sealer, polishes and waxes, fluorescent lamps, electronics, computer monitors and more.

The Collection Center charges on a pay-as-you-throw basis and accepts cash and credit cards. Check their website or call 866.769.1621 for pricing.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
