Nathaniel S. Morse Jr., 71, Westport


Nathaniel S. Morse Jr., 71, of Westport died Friday, April 12, 2013, at Charlton Memorial Hospital.  Born in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Nathaniel S. and Violette H. (Stevens) Morse.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the United States Army.  Prior to retirement, he was a security guard.

Survivors include three brothers, David S. Morse of Westport, Kenneth A. Morse of Fall River, and Andrew W. Morse of New Bedford; two sisters, Dale M. Mongeon of Tampa, Fla., and Kathleen Carvalho of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Saturday, April 20, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 -10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
