Monarchs on the move in Little Compton
Millions of Monarch butterflies will soon make their long migration south for the winter, and thousands of them were spotted Thursday morning at Goosewing Beach in Little Compton. This photo of one tree covered with the butterflies was taken by Geoff Dennis who said that well over 5,000 monarchs roosted in six trees at sunrise. They were already departing ten minutes before the sun broke the horizon. "Words can’t touch what it looked like that morning. Days earlier, Jeanne Parente of The Nature Conservancy of RI, took this second shot at the same location.
