Michael Pierce Donovan, 59, of Warwick

Michael Pierce Donovan, died in Warwick on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at the age of 59 after a long battle with alcohol addiction. 

Michael was born on July 9, 1958, in Providence to Barbara Burton Donovan and Pierce James Donovan. He graduated from Barrington High School in 1976 and then attended Rhode Island College, where he was a member of the baseball team. He worked for many years as a chef for establishments in Rhode Island and elsewhere, including a small cruise line. He loved the outdoors and was an avid runner and cyclist.

He is survived by his daughter Bryn Watson of Rochester, NY, and three sisters: Karen Donovan of Riverside; Beth Donovan of Cranston; and Martha Donovan of Barrington. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Friends are invited to join the family for a reception and a time of remembering at Barrington Presbyterian Church, 400 County Road, Barrington, on Sunday Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Butler Hospital Foundation, Alcohol & Drug Treatment Services, 345 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI 02906 or online at https://foundation.butler.org/

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
