Mary Soares, 88, Warren


Mary Soares, 88, a lifelong Warren resident, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Crestwood Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Manuel and Bella (Martins) Soares.

Mary worked for Crown Fastener for 28 years and R & J Mfg. for 15 years. She leaves a daughter, Janice Belford of Illinois; two sisters, Isabel Morrison of Johnston and Maximina Medeiros of Warren; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Costa. She was a sister of the late Joseph and Manuel Soares Jr.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where family will receive friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Metacom Avenue. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
