Mary (Perry) Bernard, 89, of Bristol


Mary (Perry) Bernard, 89, of St. Elizabeth Manor passed away on March 10th.  She was the wife of the late Edward J. “Chuck” Bernard.

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Manuel William and Mary Chryssa (Furtado) Perry.   She was the mother of Edward J. Bernard, Jr, Steven Bernard, Ann Bernard, David Bernard, Jane King and Kevin Bernard; grandmother of Edward, Michael, Brian, Jennifer, Steven, Jr, Jason, David, Jr, Peter Michael, Amy and Daniel; great grandmother of 13 and great great grandmother of 2.  She was the sister of the late Manuel Perry, Jr, Michael Perry, John Perry and Ann Cote.

Her funeral service was lead by Pastor David Therrien of the New Hope Christian Church at the George Lima Funeral Home on March 14th.  Burial was private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
