Mary Haggerty, 89, Tiverton


Mary Gloria Haggerty, 89, of Tiverton, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was the wife of the late Thomas Patrick Haggerty.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Adolphe Berube and Olive (Landreville) Berube. She had formerly worked as a home health aide.

She is survived by two sisters, Claire Goodrich and Dorothy Berube, both of Rhode Island; and her brother, Joseph Berube (wife Dolores) of Conneticut. She also leaves her grandaughter Christina (Husband Ronald) Costa of Tiverton, and grandaughter Melissa Bavoux of Attleboro. Great grandchildren are Juliet Costa, Ruby Costa, Thomas Fogarty and Marcel Bavoux Jr. She was the mother of the late Thomas Fogarty.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Victory Chapel in Tiverton sometime in the spring. Burial was Wednesday March 13, at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Arrangements are with the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
