Mary DeSouza , 96, Little Compton


Mary (Medeiros) DeSouza, 96, of Little Compton, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, peacefully at home with her family by her side.  She was the wife of the late Antone DeSouza.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Carreira) Medeiros.  A resident of Little Compton for most of her life, she had worked as a cook at the Fo'c's'le restaurant in Little Compton for 33 years.

Mrs. DeSouza enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and was a member of Full Gospel Christian Fellowship in New Bedford.

She is survived by four sons, Wallace DeSouza of Tiverton, William DeSouza of Oklahoma, Antone DeSouza Jr. of Little Compton, and David R. DeSouza of Little Compton; three daughters, Anne Gonsalves of Maine, Carolyn Hill of Little Compton and Irene DeSouza of Fall River; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Manuel Medeiros.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Thursday, May 16, at 10 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.  Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton.  Calling hours will be Wednesday, 4-7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Full Gospel Christian Fellowship, 6415 Highway 90 W., New Bedford, MA 02745.
