Martin Middle School announces important dates for opening of 2013-14 term


EAST PROVIDENCE — Edward R. Martin Middle School’s Administrative Team of Mr. Frank DeVall and Ms. Cheri Guerra welcome all new and returning students and parents back from their summer vacation and share in their excitement to begin another school year at Martin.

The school year officially begins on Thursday, Sept. 5, with doors opening 7:45 a.m. On that first day of school, all 6th grade students will report to the Cafeteria, 7th grade students to the Auditorium, and 8th grade students to the Gymnasium.  All students should enter school from the Brown Street entrances where the buses drop students off.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., Martin will be hosting a "Hot Dog Roast" for all incoming 6th grade students and their parents to meet the staff and become more comfortable with the surroundings of their new building.

Other dates in September to mark on your calendar include: Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. will be 6th Grade "Locker Night" and Thursday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8pm will be "Meet the Teachers" at Martin.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
