Manuel Carreiro, formerly of Bristol, and longtime resident of Jensen Beach, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 in Stuart, Florida.

Manny was born in Bristol in 1919 and resided on 3rd School Street and Mt. Hope Avenue before his family moved to East Providence.  He and his wife, Mary, moved to the corner of Wood Street and Church Street on the Bristol Common. They attended Mass at St. Elizabeth’s church regularly. Manny served in the US Army during WWII, and upon his return home worked for US Rubber, then Kaiser Aluminum, until his retirement in 1977. He was an active member in American Legion Kearney Post #6.

Upon his retirement, he and Mary moved to Florida and were soon followed by most of their grown children and their families. Manny and Mary enjoyed retirement and spent their time tending to their yard, going to church, enjoying their family.

He is survived by a sister, Agnes Paiva; five children, M. David, Joseph (Janet), Frances (Ronald), Anthony, and August; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 71 years, and 7 siblings.
