Louise M. King, East Providence


Louise M. King, 93, of East Providence, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center after a long battle with cancer. 

Before and after her retirement she was active in many volunteer organizations.  She was a member the East Providence Beautification Committee, the East Providence Senior Center and Self-Help of East Providence.

She is survived by her cousins; Stephen P. and Joseph P. Kirby of Barrington, Hugh Penney (Paulette) of Brewster, MA and Ruth Mathewson of Warwick.  She was the sister of the late Mary F. King, with whom she lived in entire life and a brother; the late Owen J. King.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday Dec. 27, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside, at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, at 10 a.m. Calling hours are Wednesday Dec. 26, from 3-5 p.m.  Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
