David DaSilva and Nicholas Deveau, representing the Bristol County Water Authority, placed first in the inaugural Hydrant Hysteria competition, held during the New England Water Works Association Spring Joint Conference and Exhibition on April 5 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
Mr. DaSilva and Mr. Deveau will now compete against teams from across North America on June 13 at the 2017 American Water Works Association Annual Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia, Pa.
Hydrant Hysteria is a competition that challenges teams of two to assemble a hydrant as fast as possible without incurring penalties through imperfections in assembly and safety violations.
This was the first year that NEWWA, the largest association of drinking water professionals in the region, held this competition during its annual Spring Joint Conference and Exhibition. Bristol County Water Authority was one of six teams from around New England participating in the competition.
While "Team Bristol County Water Authority" prefers not to share their official finish time before competing at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition, it is safe to say Mr. DaSilva and Mr. Deveau worked at a blistering speed to bring home the win.
The team received the Hydrant Hysteria trophy as well as funding for transportation to and lodging at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia thanks to the generous Hydrant Hysteria competition sponsors.
"NEWWA congratulates Bristol County Water Authority on their victory," stated a press release. "Members of the water works community look forward to cheering them on when they compete in Philadelphia on June 13."
