Lobster pot Christmas tree decorates Bristol Harbor waterfront

A new addition to Bristol’s holiday decor is a lobster pot tree on the State Street dock. The tree was first erected two years ago after being proposed by Lynn Shaw, proprietor of Harbor Bath and Body.

“I told Gregg (Harbormaster Gregg Marsilli) that the Bristol Merchants Association would pay for the roping and the lights if he could get some of the fishermen together to assemble a tree with their lobster pots,” said Ms. Shaw. “So he did.”

The project didn’t come together in 2017. “Last year it got away from me and I forgot,” said Ms. Shaw. “But I contracted Gregg three weeks ago and asked him if we could do this again this year and he was nice enough to do the same thing and gather the pots and assemble the tree.”

“I was happy to help,” said Harbormaster Marsilli. “It’s a nice thing for the town.”

The pots were donated by Katie Eagan, a local lobster and conch fisherwoman.

“I think it’s so special and wonderful that the Bristol Merchants Association would want to include our local businesses in their holiday plans,” said Ms. Eagan. “The fishing community is a vital part of our town’s fabric, and we were happy to donate the lobster pots for the tree. The Harbormaster’s office was so supportive and did a great job making it come alive. I hope it’s a tradition they continue.”
