Live in your summer home year-round at Touisset Point

Posted

With school buses running again and Labor Day weekend upon us, we want to wring every last drop out of summer. What better way than to live year-round in your summer home? The residents of Touisset Point wouldn’t have it any other way.

The community developed organically over the course of the 20th century as an enclave of cottages for wealthy families looking to escape Providence in the summer heat. Over the last several years, many have been winterized, making Touisset Point a vibrant and tight-knit community all year long. By the time you reach the point, you are far enough from Route 103 to feel worlds away, yet the location close to the Massachusetts border makes for quick access to Interstate 195, Providence and Boston.

This three-bedroom, two-bath cottage at 27 Touisset Road is quiet and private, with a backyard of mature trees and meticulously-tended perennials framing postcard-worthy views of protected Audubon land. Marsh birds and deer are frequently sighted from the lush lawn, which is well-elevated over the adjacent wetlands. An elegant stone patio provides a perfect spot for summer entertaining.

A rose-adorned fence surrounds the front of the cottage, and from there you are steps from the shores of Mt. Hope Bay and the Kickemuit River — a paradise for kayakers, sailors, and fishermen. Touisset Point is a perfectly idyllic place to raise a family, and with only occasional — and slow — residential traffic along its lanes, it is safe for all but the youngest children to walk and ride bikes around the neighborhood.

Community facilities are great, and well-used by residents. There is a clubhouse, tennis courts, baseball fields, community gardens, and a beach, to which the cottage includes deeded rights. The active community association plans fun events for both children and adults throughout the year.

Just about the only drawback to life on Touisset Point is that you’ve got a bit of a journey if you need sugar and the cupboard is empty. But that’s okay — you’re in a place where everybody knows your name. Your neighbor will give you a bag, knowing you’ll replace it next time you go “to town.”
