Letter: Thanks to Bristol firefighters and police department

Dear Editor:

We would like to thank the Bristol Fire Department and the police officer who responded to the fire at our house early in the morning of Sept. 13. Although we were very lucky in that it was both small and contained things could easily have been much worse. We appreciate your professionalism and service. Never more than when standing outside with a toddler and two dogs at 2:30 a.m. and a basement full of smoke. I would also like to make people aware of the dehumidifier recall, details can be found at this site http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2013/Gree-Recalls-12-Brands-of-Dehumidifiers/. Everyone should check to make sure they don't have a device on that list.

Thank you again.

The Houde family

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
