Letter: Portsmouth 375th Committee thanks individual volunteers

To the editor:

The Portsmouth 375th Gala weekend has come and gone but good memories of our community coming together to celebrate Portsmouth’s 375th anniversary and welcome our visitors remain.

The 375th Steering Committee would like to extend a special thanks to all of the individual volunteers who came forward to help us conduct the events that so impressed our distinguished guests. In the words of the lord mayor of Portsmouth, England, Lynn Stagg, the entire weekend was conducted “brilliantly." We were able to accomplish this thanks to the many local residents who volunteered their time and energy to supporting our events. It was very gratifying to see their community spirit that made our events so successful. We simply could not have done this without them. Thank you all for being a part of Portsmouth history.

But we are not done yet! We will be having 375th events for the rest of the year, up to Dec. 31 when will come together a final time at Island Park Beach to close out our 375th year. Check our website at www.portsmouthri375.com and this newspaper for event details. And you can still support us by purchasing our 375th T-shirts, hats and limited edition 375th ornaments. Thanks to all for making our 375th Gala Weekend a memorable one.

Doug Smith

Chairman, Portsmouth 375th Steering Committee
