Letter: Always remember and never forget

Posted

I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to Susan and Linda, owners of Paper, Packaging and Panache, for offering their store window to display the wonderful World War II collection of my uncle, Sgt. Charles Sullivan, an airplane mechanic who served in World War II.

I inherited this collection when he passed away years ago. The Army uniform, hats and her father’s original 48-Star American flag was offered by Susan to add to the display.

Thank you to my daughter, Linda for her help arranging the display. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Phoenix for their article last week. The response has been overwhelming, due to the tremendous interest from others who have offered their own heartfelt stories.

Since putting this tribute together, I have learned that after both World War I and World War II, many who served, like my uncle Charles and my uncle Sgt. Tom Sullivan (who received a purple heart) chose to stay silent.

It is our job as U.S. citizens to never forget and to remember what our servicemen and women have sacrificed to ensure our freedom and safety.

For those what have not had the opportunity to see the display, it will remain in the store’s window at 418 Hope St. until Thanksgiving.
