Leo Charles Clark Jr., 95, Tiverton and Little Compton


Leo Charles Clark Jr., 95, of Cumberland, formerly of Tiverton and Little Compton, passed away on Wednesday, Nove. 28, 2012, and joined his beloved wife of 66 years Janice.

Leo and Janice Clark founded Clarks Christmas Tree Farm on Main Road in Tiverton in the 1950’s, the first local Christmas Tree Farm in southeastern Rhode Island, which  continues in operation today.

Born on June 30, 1917, Mr. Clark graduated from the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in 1942, and served as a U.S. Navy Pharmacists Mate during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Brennan’s Drug Store in Pawtucket from the 1940’s to the 1960’s, when he relocated to two sites in Seekonk, one at Bakers Corner and one on Route Six. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Clark was a past president of the Rhode Island Pharmaceutical Association, the Lions Club of Fall River, and the Rhode Island Christmas Tree Growers Association. Mr. and Mrs. Clark were long-time members of the Tiverton Yacht Club. Mr. Clark is survived by his sister Harriet Clark and his daughter Polly Ney of Little Compton, his son Leo C. Clark III (Pete) and his wife Patricia of Houston, Texas, and his daughter Pamela and her husband Charles (Chip) Thurlow of Cumberland. Mr. and Mrs. Clark were the proud grandparents of six grandchildren and four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren. Mr. Clark's other siblings, all deceased, were Charles Clark Jr., Virginia McGann, Carol Hiscock, William P. Clark, Marjorie Bertholet and Richard F. Clark. Calling hours are on Monday, December 3, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Ave., Little Compton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Little Compton at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery on Main Road in Tiverton.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on behalf of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, Rhode Island Chapter or by mail to HDSA, Rhode Island Chapter, 6 Boston Road, Suite 203A, Chelmsford, MA 01824.
