Large-Scale Puppets, Soaring Kites and Aerial Artistry at RISD

Heather Henson, daughter of beloved puppetry pioneer and Muppets creator Jim Henson, along with her Ibex Puppetry production company, will perform Celebration of Flight, an all-ages performance celebrating the Earth’s changing seasons and enchanting creatures. Giant dragonflies, cranes, and the spirits of the air will descend to earth when called by drums and noisemakers of the audience. Audience members will play music, fly kites, and dance along with the creatures that fill our sky. A pre-show kite-building workshop will begin at 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: RISD Auditorium, 17 Canal St., Providence

WHEN: April 7, 4 p.m.

COST: $20 adult / $10 children 12 and under (for purchases at door add $5)

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
