Kim C. Benjamin, 58, of Cedar Avenue, Portsmouth, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Newport Hospital. He was the loving husband for 20 years of Pamela J. (Costa) Benjamin. Born in Providence, he was the devoted son of the late Margaret “Margo” (Zoragian) Benjamin.

A graduate of Hope High School in Providence and URI in Kingston, Kim was an acoustic engineer having worked at Raytheon, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and U.S. Navy NUWC Newport. He was a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence.

Inurnment at North Burial Ground Cemetery in Providence will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Boulevard, Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
