Josephine P. Marshall, 87, formerly of East Providence


Josephine P. Marshall, 87, of Springfield, Ore. and formerly of East Providence, passed away of sepsis on March 15, 2013. Born on Feb. 23, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Pavao of East Providence. She was married to the late Manuel J. Marshall for 50 years.

Mrs. Marshall is survived by a son, Manuel J. Marshall Jr., of California, five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Margaret Leite and Theresa Pavao, both East Providence, and Dorothy Licciardi of Cranston, and well as a brother, Manuel Pavao, of California. She was the sister of the late Nancy Marshall, of California.

Mrs. Marshall was a lover of animals, especially cats. She was a manager at a large chain store in California, where she lived for 33 years before moving to Oregon in 1988. Mrs. Marshall was buried with her husband in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
