Joseph DeCastro, 83, Bristol


Joseph DeCastro, 83, of Bristol, passed away on Aug. 10.  He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Vargas) DeCastro for 63 years.

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Maria (Nunez) DeCastro. He was the union president at Kaiser Aluminum, United Rubber Workers Local 339 for 36 years. He was also the owner of East Bay Power Equipment for 20 years. He served in the Army National Guard beginning in 1948.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James DeCastro (Leslie); daughters Cynthia Singman and Susan DeCastro; grandchildren Kara Estrella (Thomas) and James DeCastro Jr.; great grandson Cole Estrella; brother Anthony DeCastro; sisters Philomena (Castro) Bilotti, Josephine (Castro) Calce and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Bristol.

Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 15, 5 - 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Elizabeth Church or Bristol Rescue Squad, PO Box 775 Bristol RI 02809.
