Joseph C. Bellas, 86, formerly of Barrington

Joseph C. Bellas, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2017. 

Joe was born on June 16, 1930 in New Kensington, Pa. to Joseph and Elizabeth Molnar Bellas. He served five years in the US Air Force and worked as a technical service representative for Alcoa for 39 years.

Joe married Helen Duda in 1956. He was a member of IAM (International Association of Machinist).

He lived in Barrington for 28 years before retiring to Daytona Beach. 

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope-Port Orange and Indigo Lakes Golf Club and former member of Pelican Bay Golf Club. Joe enjoyed his golf and reading.

Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years Helen, two children Joseph Bellas III of Irvine, Calif. and Roberta Bellas Portugal of Barrington, and seven grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Ormond Beach at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL  32129.

Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
