Jose Souza, 94, Tiverton

Jose Souza, 94, formerly of Church Street, Tiverton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, after a short illness. He was the husband of Elsie (Lopes) Souza with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in Tiverton, he was the son of the late John and Maria (Perry) DeSouto Souza.

An Army Air Corps vetertan of World War II, Joe was a retired roofer and after working for National Contracting Co. founded the former Souza & Sons Roofing Co.

He was the beloved father of Jose Souza, Jr. (wife-Beverly), John and Alan Souza; grandfather of Jose Souza III, Keith, Matthew and Kimberly Souza, Alan Souza, Jr. and Lynne Bates; brother of Antone, Dennis and Robert DeSouto, Mary Murphy and the late John, Jesse and George Souza, Seraphin “Peter” and Irene Desouto, Gloria Medeiros and Margaret Thorpe. He also leaves a loving daughter-in-law, Janet Souza, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton, followed by his committal with military honors at Pocasset Hill Cemetery.   www.silvafaria.com
