Jose Resendes Almeida, 83, loving father and grandfather, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 10, 2018, at Grace Barker Health Center. He was the husband of the late Armanda (Santos) Almeida.
Born in Agua do Pau, St. Michael, he was the son of the late Virginio and Maria Germina (Resendes) deAlmeida. He is survived by his children, Armanda Soares, Constantina Papoula and her husband Manuel, Theresa Resendes (the late Antonio), and Lisa Sjursen and her husband Chad; grandchildren, Mandy Soares, Kevin Soares, Joshua Papoula, Monica Papoula, Andrew Resendes, Melanie Resendes, Douglas Zingali and Kaylee Sjursen; and great-granddaughter, Rylee Rogers.
He was the brother of Germina Tavares (the late Manuel), Zulmira DeMello (Adriano), Virginio Almeida (Idalia), the late David Almeida (Theresa), the late Urbano deAlmeida (the late Clara), the late Virginia Craveiro (the late John) and the late Maria Cecelia deAlmeida.
Mr. Resendes was educated in Portugal and employed by Scully MacDonald Painting Company for 35 years before retiring.
His funeral services were held Aug. 15 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo C. Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Ginny Davis and Douglas Zingali. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Mary Alice DeAguiar. The offertory gifts were presented by Mandy Soares, Monica Papoula, Melanie Resebdes and Kaylee Sjursen. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Almeida, Tommy Almeida, John Dias, Dave DeMello, Urban DeAlmeida and Dave Tavares.
