Jose Oliveira, 93, of Bay View Ave passed away on November 12th at Orchard View Manor.  He was the husband of Angelina (do Carmo) Cordeiro.

Born in Relva, Sao Miguel, he was the son of the late Francisco and Maria da Gloria Oliveira.  He was employed as machine operator for American Tourister before retiring.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Joao C. Oliveira and his wife Genoveva of Bristol, his daughter Maria Angelina Medeiros and her husband Jose of Canada, his grandchildren Michael Oliveira, Deborah Oliveira Carr, Jennifer Oliveira Bento and Suzie Medeiros Blesity and great grandchildren Kendra and Sara Oliveira and Emma and Zachary Blesity.  He was the brother of the late Joao and Francisco Oliveira.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16th 8 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High St with a Mass of Christian Burial, 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. Visiting hours are Thursday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. www.limafh.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
