John Wordell, 85, Little Compton

John Wordell, 85, formerly of East Main Road, Little Compton, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton. He was the husband of the late Waltraud Wordell.

Born in Little Compton, he was a son of the late Sidney and Charlotte (Sisson) Wordell.

Mr. Wordell was a self-employed carpenter for 50 years,. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by two sons, Wayne Wordell of Providence and Lee Wordell of Newport. He was the brother of the late David Wordell and Elizabeth Wordell.

His funeral will be held on Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m. in the Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Ave., Little Compton. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
