John Henry Pinto Jr., 81, Bristol

John Henry Pinto Jr., 81, of Jane Lane, passed away on July 15, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Lee M. Perry.

Born in Newport, he was the son of the late John Henry and Elizabeth (Lawton) Perry. He was a graduate of De La Salle Academy and Roger Williams College. Mr. Pinto served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was employed by Jade Engineering and Pearson Yachts before retiring. He was a military history buff and loved spending time with his dogs.

His funeral services were held July 19 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Luis Garcia Dutra at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Marie Ferreira and Tim Mulrooney. The offertory gifts were presented by Marie Ferreira and Eileen Tavares. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. Serving as pallbearers were Shawn Perry, John Vieira Jr. and Tim Mulrooney.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
