John H. “Jack” McCann, Jr., 86, of 45 Main St. beloved husband of the late Joyce (Phillips) McCann passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at Westview Healthcare Center. He was born April 29, 1927 in Warren, a son of the late John H. and Irene (Farley) McCann, Sr., and had resided in Plainfield, Conn. for over 40 years.

Mr. McCann was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.  He was proud to have been on the undefeated, un-scored upon and untied Barrington High School football team of 1943. He was a graduate of Providence College, class of 1950.

Mr. McCann was a chemist and an entrepreneur and went on to build several successful businesses, including McCann Manufacturing. He was a member of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering. He was an avid golfer, and his lifelong love of singing continued to his last days.

He leaves three sons, John H. McCann III of Barrington, Kevin P. McCann of Narragansett, and Kenneth L. McCann of Northfield, Ver.; a daughter, Kathleen A. McCann of Riverside; three sisters, Irene Dahlberg of San Diego, Calif., Joyce Barnes of Lynchburg, Vir., and Kathleen Hicks of Narragansett; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol McCann.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Plainfield. Private burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Central Village. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tenn., 38101-9908. Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home, Plainfield is assisting the family.
