John B. King Jr., 72, Warren


John B. “Bud” King Jr., 72, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014. He was the loving husband of Betty (Atkinson) King.

Born in Attleboro, MA., he was a son of the late John Basil Sr. and Ruth (Gustafson) King. Mr. King attended Roger Williams University as well as Bryant College. He was on the Board of Governors and a past president of the Touisset Point Community Club, a member of the Portuguese American Club and a volunteer firefighter for Engine #6 for many years. He loved sports and was an avid bowler.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Sherri King and Rebecca Hindle and her husband Edward and John Basil King III; a brother, Douglas King; his grandchildren, Rachel and Lauren Rodrigues and Emma and Eddie Hindle; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Little Buddy.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, Main Street, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
