John A. Garakop, 84, of Warren, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Jessica (Castigliego) Garakop.

Born in Smithfield, RI, he was the foster son of the late Mary Walsh and the son of the late John and Louise (Garakop) Alarie.

John was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol. A United States Army veteran, he served in the Korean War. He was a groundman for Narragansett Electric and National Grid. John was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Bristol and enjoyed Bowling at Dudek’s, fishing and watching Red Sox and Patriots games.

Loving father of John J. Garakop and his wife Mary of Florida, Nicholas Garakop of Rhode Island, Debra A. Lieder of Rhode Island, Susan M. Carlson and her husband Donald Hebert of Rhode Island, Jayne M. Gervais and her husband Steve of Massachusetts and Kathi Ann Limoges of Rhode Island. Grandfather of Keith and Amy Carlson, Nicholas Garakop II, Jill Colvin, Corey Garakop, and Gerald and Jennifer Stills; and great-grandfather of five. Brother of Leo Alarie, Henry Alarie, Bruce Alarie, Barbara Rozyski, Sandra Rattie, Carol Maines, Marlene Giguiere and Denise Parker. Grandfather of the late Kimberly Carlson-Leva. Brother of the late Robert, Thomas and Eugene Alarie, Jeanne Medeiros, Arlene Forget and Mary Alarie.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI 02885, where family will receive friends Sunday, April 23rd, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Monday, April 24, from the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial in North Burial Ground, Bristol, RI.
