Joan Charlotte Ryan, 83, Little Compton

Joan Charlotte Ryan, 83, of Maple Avenue, Little Compton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River. She was predeceased by her husband Francis Ryan.

Mrs. Ryan was born in Springfield, Vt., a daughter of the late Harold and Annette (Royce) Pelkey. She was a resident of Little Compton for 47 years.

She was a founding member of the Sakonnet Garden Club and an avid reader and painter.

Mrs. Ryan is survived by her five children, Michael J. Ryan of Grantham, NH, William F. Ryan, Beth A. Ryan, Amy M. Hathaway, and Susan Ryan, all of Little Compton; two brothers, Burton Clarke and Benton Clarke of Michigan; three sisters, Nancy Walker of Charlestown, NH, Laverne Caputo of Michigan, and Carolyn McAdams of New Mexico; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ryan’s funeral was held on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, the Commons, Little Compton. Burial was in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery. Visiting hours were respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of Portsmouth, RI, or to Friends of Browned Library, PO Box 146, Little Compton, RI 02837. Funeral arrangements were by the Fern Acres Funeral Home, Little Compton.
