Jerry A. Borgia, 91, Barrington


Jerry A. Borgia, 91, of Middle Highway, died peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was the husband of the late Rose (DiBari) Borgia. Mr. Borgia was a machine operator for the former Kaiser Aluminum Co., Bristol. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Jerry was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. He was a life member of the Barrington American Legion Post #8.  He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Borgia of Cranston; a daughter, LouAnn of Chepachet; two brothers, Matthew Borgia of Bristol and Carlo Borgia of Fla.; a sister, Anna Vollaro of Warren; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his faithful dog Rocky.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 19, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
