Janice Rae Gundersen, 87, formerly of Barrington

Janice Rae (Anderson) Gundersen, 87, formerly of Orlando, Fla. and Barrington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Manor, in Bristol. Jan was the beloved wife of the late Ralph Martin Gundersen. Born in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Raynor and Hertha (Behnke) Anderson.

Both avid golfers, she and her husband played extensively, predominantly as members of Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge, Rhode Island Country Club, Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club and Country Club of Pittsfield, where Jan made her first hole-in-one.

Jan traveled with her husband throughout his naval career and attended Monmouth College, University of Wisconsin, University of Colorado Graduate School, Rhode Island College of Graduate Studies and the University of Rhode Island.

Jan worked as a health and physical education teacher in Denver, Colo. and Providence school systems as well as Roger Williams College. She retired from the Barrington school system after 35 years of service.

Funeral services will be private. 

Arrangements are with the George Lima Funeral Home.
