J30 North Americans coming to Barrington this week

Posted

Barrington Yacht Club will host the J30 North American Championship this weekend — the event starts Friday, July 26 and continues through Sunday, July 28.

This will be the third time Barrington Yacht Club has hosted this regatta, which will be the largest gathering of J boats in many years, thanks to the efforts of the New England District (Fleet13) and Regatta Chair, Charlie Stoddard.

Many of the Fleet 13 boats from Barrington, Bristol and Narragansett Bay will be competing for the honors. The sailors will be treated to challenging conditions in the upper bay under race management and PRO, Ron Hopkins.

There will be events ashore to keep the sailors and families entertained including a New England Lobster Boil. http://j30.us/

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
