J. Marjorie Leino, 95, Tiverton


J. Marjorie (Harrison) Leino of Tiverton, RI, 95, formerly of Sandwich, Mass., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.  She was the wife of the late Carl E. Leino of Sandwich and the late Daniel C. Chisholm Sr. of Nashua, NH.

Born in Sagamore, she was the daughter of William and Edith Harrison.  She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Eleanor M. Benoit and E. Lorraine Cameron.  She resided in Sandwich with her family throughout her childhood.  Marjorie was a graduate of Sandwich High School and Salem State College.

After raising her five children, she taught commercial subjects at Nashua Business College and then was secretary to the president of New England Aeronautical Institute/Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH, for several years.  Later in life, Marjorie returned to her native Sandwich and worked six years in the Assessors’ Office of the Town of Sandwich before retiring.  In retirement, she co-founded the Friendly Visitors Group of Sandwich, an organization of volunteers who visit the elderly homebound.

She is survived by Marcia A. Chisholm of Fall River, Beverly J. McCobb of Forestdale, Mass., Daniel C. Chisholm Jr. and his wife, Jan, of New Bedford, Gail E. Donnelly and her husband, Jack, of Georgia, Vt., and Bonnie C. Paradis and her husband, Bob, of Tiverton; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, Sandwich, Mass. on Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery in Sandwich.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marjorie may be made to the Friendly Visitors Program via the Sandwich Council on Aging at 270 Quaker Meeting House Road, Sandwich, MA  02563, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
