Howard Hughes, Riverside


Howard Hughes, of Riverside passed away peacefully Friday, March 7, 2014, at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Pawtucket he was the son of the late Doris (LaFountaine) Hughes.

Howard worked in the Food Service Department at Brown University for 28 years and also at Crescent Park. He is survived by his sister Barbara-Ann Mac Intosh and her husband Bill of Jamestown.  He was the uncle of Stephen Mac Intosh and wife Mary, Douglas Mac Intosh and Heather Vine and husband Leonard. He was a proud great uncle to Andrew, Hayley and Lauren Vine and Cameron and Duncan Mac Intosh.

Calling hours for Howard will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Ave., Riverside with a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
