Hope Street head-on crash ties up traffic

Bristol police and rescue crews were on the scene of a two, possibly three car collision on Hope Street, just north of Gooding Avenue.

According to witnesses, a car traveling at a high rate of speed heading south on Hope Street struck a telephone pole and careened into the northbound lane where it crashed head-on into another vehicle. The two cars that struck head-on came to rest on the center line of the roadway.

The northbound vehicle had children on board.

At least one victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for unknown injuries.

The accident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. Southbound traffic is being diverted to Tupelo Street while accident reconstruction detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
