Hope E. Furness, 93, Westport

Hope E. (Rich) Furness, 93, of Westport died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Southpointe Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in Fall River.  She was wife of the late Francisco Furness.  Born in Provincetown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Mary J. (Taves) Rich. 
Survivors include two sons, Wordell “John” Sampson Jr. of California, and Francis W. “Frank” Furness of Westport; two daughters, Nancy J. Potter of Somerset and Sharon E. Paiva of Somerset; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Arthur S. Rich Jr.
Graveside services under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, will be held at the convenience of the family.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
