Hon. Arthur Edwin Lasker, 90, Bristol


The Hon. Arthur Edwin Lasker, died peacefully on July 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.  He was 90.

A decorated World War II veteran, attorney, and judge, Arthur was born in Staten Island, New York, the second son of Philip Lasker, a Berlin-educated engineer from Riga, Latvia, and Hannah Cohen Lasker.  His Uncle Emmanuel Cohen, a former president of Paramount Pictures had a major influence on Arthur’s flair for drama.

After graduating from Curtis High School in 1939 and New York University School of Commerce in 1942, Arthur served in the Pacific Theater as a P38 pilot in the 8th Fighter Group, 36th Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Corps.  He participated in one of the last missions of the war on Aug. 10, 1945, the day after the bombing of Nagasaki.  In 1948, Arthur graduated from

New York University School of Law.

A corporate and real estate attorney and judge in New York, he was motivated by the “fight for justice."

Arthur and Marilyn, moved to Bristol in 2005 to be closer to Marilyn’s daughter. He loved the Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades and especially enjoyed being a member of  the Bristol Fourth of July committee for the short time that he was able to participate.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years Marilyn Wallace Lasker; his daughters Roz Lasker; Mimi Ginott Kaough, her children Allegra and Eli Kaough; Meredith Astrologo, her husband Val, and their daughters Madison and Marissa Astrologo; and nephew Philip Jayson Lasker.

A memorial service will be held at George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St. in Bristol, R.I. on Aug. 4. between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
