Help build bluebird boxes for the Bioreserve

The Trustees of Reservations is offering a hands-on workshop to assemble bluebird nest boxes at the Watuppa Reservation Headquarters in the Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve at 2929 Blossom Road in Fall River. The event will take place on Saturday, March 2, between 1 and 3 p.m.

The project aims to improve habitat for Eastern Bluebirds and other native cavity nesting birds by installing and monitoring nest boxes at Trustees properties in Fall River, Westport, Dartmouth and Rochester.

The populations of these beautiful birds have declined due to a shortage of natural nesting cavities and competition from non-native species such as the European House Sparrow. By building well-designed nest boxes, participants can help to “bring back the Blues” to our region.

The workshop is free but completed boxes are $15 if you want to take one home for your own use. All unsold boxes will be donated for use on Trustees properties. All box building materials will be provided but please bring your own hammer. Space is limited so registration is required. To register go to
